I take about the same list of supplements as you.
I walked 3 hours today in the gym because it was raining outside. Politics is also boring and increasingly complicated and hard to figure out. But diet and exercise is usually useful, not boring.
People can change politics but they can do something about diet and greatly improve their health.
The brain can grow 3% per year with proper diet and exercise so everything else becomes easier to understand.
Instead of Whey I use Peanuts, preferably roasted in shell, unsalted.
Both are high in Leucine, the main branch chained amino acid needed by body builders who need lots of leucine but low calories to become muscular with very low body fat. Peanuts are high in calories due to oil.
Commercial Whey has a huge number of additives including sugar and worse. Looks like a very dangerous vat of chemicals that you have to pay extra for.
Looks strange. Tastes strange. I don’t like it but feel guilty that I don’t use it.
Despite the danger whey is very popular with body builders who must get some benefit or they would not use it.
This Swedish Medical Student is honestly trying to understand things so is unbiased and uses what he learns on himself.
He writes simply and is not too hard to understand, prolific, scattered all over the place, more wide than deep. His blog gets a lot of comments.
He finds some advantage to the whey mess:
Whey is particularly high in important Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) like Leucine, and also contains a large amount of Cysteine Leucine is the most anabolic (growth promoting) amino acid
Cysteine can help boost levels of the cellular antioxidant Glutathione
Whey protein appears to be particularly effective at stimulating growth in humans. Human breast milk is actually 60% whey, compared to 20% in cow’s milk
Beyond just muscle, strength and leanness, whey protein can provide numerous other health benefits.
This includes lowering blood pressure, blood sugar and reducing symptoms of stress and depression
Whey has been shown to help protect against cancer, reduce symptoms of hepatitis, increase bone mineral density, improve immune function in HIV patients and increase lifespan in mice
The fact that whey protein is very high in the amino acid Cysteine seems to mediate many of the health benefits.
Cysteine does this by raising levels of Glutathione, the main antioxidant substance in the body’s cells
Despite concerns about protein causing kidney damage and contributing to osteoporosis, this is not true. In fact, protein has been shown to protect against osteoporosis Here is a list of even more health benefits:
